Crib Safety: What to Put In the Crib

Before worrying about what to put in a babies crib, having a good quality crib is of the utmost importance. It’s recommended never to purchase a used or antique crib because it could be missing bolts that could make the crib collapse and cause injury to your child. It could also be chipped and could cause your child to get splinters or be poisoned from the paint if the put their mouths on the crib from the previous owner. For maximum comfort, make sure that there is a good mattress in the crib with the appropriate bedding and that the crib is adjusted to the right height. When your child is able to stand up you need to make sure the mattress is adjusted lower so that they cannot get out and fall causing them an injury. Toys that are small enough to fit in their mouths should not be put in the crib because they could choke. Small stuffed animals with hazard less choking material with no ribbons should be fine. However, babies are easily entertained with moving objects and most cribs come equipped it levers that support hangin toys for them to look at and reach for to keep them busy while trying to fall asleep.
